DRAGHI TOLD TO LEAVE G30: Emily O’Reilly, the European ombudsman, has told Mario Draghi, head of the European Central Bank, to suspend his membership of the G30, a group of CEOs of private and central banks, on the grounds that it “could undermine public confidence in the independence of the ECB.” In a recommendation published Tuesday, O’Reilly said: “The implied closeness of the relationship through membership — particularly between a supervising bank and those it supervises — is not compatible with the independence obligation of an institution such as the ECB for which independence is the hallmark of its operations.”
